Can I use normal shampoo for dry hair?

Can I use normal shampoo for dry hair?
This question is asked so many times by our clients. If you have the same question then keep reading.
Regular shop bought shampoos are generally not recommended for dry hair. These shampoos often contain harsh sulphates that can strip away natural oils, leaving your hair drier and frizzier.
Exceptions: Some "gentle" or "hydrating" shop bought shampoos may be formulated with milder cleansing agents and added moisturisers. These might be okay for mildly dry hair, but read the ingredients list carefully and consider trying a small amount first.
Salon-quality or sulphate-free shampoos are scientifically proven to be more suitable for dry hair. These shampoos often use gentler cleansing agents and contain ingredients like humectants, emollients, and oils to hydrate and nourish your hair.
Still consider your hair's needs: Even some salon-quality or sulphate-free shampoos might be too clarifying for severely dry hair. Look for labels like "moisturising," "hydrating," or "nourishing" and ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, shea butter, or coconut oil.
Here are a few product we know help to improve dry hair.
Neal & Wolf Hydrate Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner
Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner
Olaplex Bond Maintenance Shampoo & Conditioner
Frequency of washing: Washing your hair less often can help preserve natural oils, regardless of the shampoo you use. Aim for 2-3 washes per week, depending on your hair type and activity level.
Conditioning: Regardless of the shampoo, regular conditioning is crucial for dry hair. Use a rich, hydrating conditioner and consider leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing.
Deep conditioning: Deep conditioning once or twice a week can provide an extra boost of moisture. Opt for deep conditioners specifically formulated for dry hair.
To summarize, regular shop bought shampoos are generally not recommended for dry hair.
Salon-quality or sulphate-free shampoos with hydrating ingredients are better choices.
Consider your hair's severity of dryness and adjust your routine accordingly.
Frequent conditioning and deep treatments are key for maintaining healthy, moisturised hair.
